Joe
"Neckbone" Gineo
Harmonica,
Guitar, Keyboard & Vocals, was born a poor black child in
Hartford, CT in or around 1960. He started playing Harmonica after being very impressed by his Pup-up. Alfred LaPointe was Joe's Grandfather "Pup-up", he played head on, sort of like Toots Theilmans meets Little Walter with a Big Band Orchestra behind him!
Pup-up was a quite incredible multi-layered player whose style has been quite elusive. So, after trying to copy many Big Band records,
Joe purchased a book called, "BLUES HARP" by TONY "LITTLE SUN"
GLOVER. After perfecting most of the instructions in that book and playing
along to J. Geils & Sonny Terry Records, he developed his own style of
Blues/Rock Harmonica playing. Later in life, for lack of a friend to play
guitar for him, Joe began to play guitar; almost simultaneously he also
began learning Piano, all in the Blues/Rock style. Joe was a closet player
for many years and playing in 2 unknown garage bands. One named the E-BRO'S, a
bunch of guys playing Southern Rock and Blues and the other was a Funk/Rap
band called BLACK KRAKA'S. Throughout the years Joe has joined many area
bands on stage for "the last set jam". In 2000, Joe joined the
Hartford area Blues band named, BLUES DELUXE BAND. This band played many
large events and benefits, including opening up for The Loving Spoonful's
JOHN SEBASTIAN in the FOXWOOD CASINO'S Grand Casino Ballroom!
After 4+ years
of playing out with that band, Joe helped form the ORIGINAL SCISSORRUNNERS
Band with 3 friends Rich, Rick and Ritchie. Later friend Colin came along.
Joe played 5+ years with this band at local venues including many Benefit
Events and Large Parties. Currently Joe has a few projects cooking! One is
the Solo Band called “Mystery” with friend Steven Rood! Joe and Steve have 2
New CDs out and are working on 2 others. Also the NEW SCISSORRUNNERS BAND is
taking form now and there will be a slight name change when the plans are
ironed out…so STAY TUNED MAN!
Joe, with his long-time musical
friend, Wayne Holmes, have recently had the pleasure of opening up for the 2007 Misquamicut Music Festival
with the following bands: Eric Burdon and
the Animals, Paul McCartney's Wings with Denny Laine of the Moody Blues,
Justin Guarini, Ian Mitchell of the Bay City Rollers, Grammy Nominee Al
Copley, and the Beach Band.
